Standing Committees

Standing Committees are permanent committees delegated to work on a specific project of an infinite duration. They assist the Officers in conducting the activities of the Phil-Am Society. The President appoints the Chairs of the Standing Committees with the approval of the Officers.

Christmas Caroling Committee

  • 2013 Chair – Vacant

The Christmas Caroling Committee conducts activities during the Christmas season to raise funds for the Phil-Am Society Scholarship Fund. They also perform for charity by bringing good-cheer to patients and residents of nursing homes, retirement homes, and medical care facilities such as the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Dayton.

Constitutional Amendment Committee

  • 2013 Chair – Romy Lu
  • Member – Lina Belen
  • Member – Gil Cruz
  • Member – Virgie Regal
  • Member – Emma Zinkiewicz

The Constitutional Amendment Committee is responsible for reviewing proposed changes to the Constitution; and presenting their recommendation on proposed changes to the Officers, which, if necessary, is presented to the members of the Phil-Am Society to vote upon.

Election Committee

  • 2013 Chair – Norma Knott
  • 2014 Chair – Chuck Castro
  • 2015 Chair – Rose Prado
  • 2016 Chair – Gil Cruz
  • 2017 Chair – Bob Hale

The Election Committee (COMELEC) is responsible for the conduct of the Phil-Am Society Elections held on the third Sunday each September. The President, in consultation with the other Officers, appoints the junior member of the committee, who will gain seniority and eventually chair the committee.

Scholarship Committee

  • 2013 Chair – Cheryl Castro
  • 2014 Chair – Yolanda Truckenbrodt
  • 2015 Chair – Rose Prado
  • 2016 Chair – Merilyn Desarro
  • 2017 Chair – Mardi Ross

The organization maintains a Phil-Am Society Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Committee is responsible for evaluating the academic and extra-curricular accomplishments of Phil-Am Society Scholarship applicants against established scholarship criteria and selecting the annual scholarship recipients. The President, in consultation with the other Officers, appoints the junior member of the committee, who will gain seniority and eventually chair the committee.

Youth Committee

  • 2013 Co-Chair – Danielle McCreary
  • 2013 Co-Chair – Teo Marcelo

The Youth Committee encourages awareness of Philippine culture and heritage among the Filipino-American youth and conducts youth-led community service activities in the Greater Dayton Area.
